“Think of the power that gave Esther the strength to put her trust in the living God, as she invited her people to fast and pray for her for three days and then entered the king’s chamber without an invitation. Her trust brought to pass much righteousness as it saved her people from destruction.”
-Susan H. Porter, President of the 17th General Primary Presidency
This quote is from the 2024 BYU Women’s Conference, in a speech titled, “For the Power Is in Us: The Lord Loves Effort.” and I thought it was fitting for International Women’s Day as women continue to work for global equality. There are at least two countries where women are still not allowed to vote– do you know what those countries are? According to UN Women, Women still make 77 cents for every dollar earned by men.
Among all adults without children, women do twice as much household work as men, dedicating 11.7 hours per week to these tasks, on average, compared to 5.8 hours for men. Women in mid-life (45 to 54) without children at home spend an astounding 2.7 times as much time on household labor as their male counterparts. (Gender Policy Equity Institute) and about 91 % of women with children spend at least an hour per day on housework, compared with 30% of men with children. The latest available data shows that employed women spend about 2.3 hours daily on housework; for employed men, this figure is 1.6 hours. (European Institute for Gender Equality).
I firmly believe that we need to treat the daughters of God better.
