International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. I’d love to have you join us in Salt Lake for our 2nd annual event, “Lunch and Learn.”
Last year, Rebekah Clark from Better Days Utah inspired us by telling us that any attendee with Relief Society heritage has ancestors who worked for women’s suffrage. (GO, GREAT GRANDMA!) Shamail Tawana Nasiri shared her experience in defying the Taliban to work for the betterment of Afghani women, and Lisa Olsen Tait discussed the challenges and rewards of writing and editing Saints, the history of the international Church of Jesus Christ, and the beauty of the translation process in that journey. It was a brilliant and inspirational event that still resonates with all those who were able to attend online and in person.
This year, we have another amazing group of women speaking. Becky Brouwer, creator SendyMom will examine how we can “send” positivity and encouragement to those around us as well as ourselves. Dr. Amber Taylor, Managing Historian, Church History Department will discuss the forthcoming book that she co-authored, Carry On: The Latter-day Saint Young Women Organization, 1870–2024 through an international lens. Lastly, Débora Ruano Fletcher, CEO Sustainable Families Group will present on her work in the United Nations and various countries regarding the creation and providing food for girls and women in nutritionally impoverished nations.
We would absolutely love for you to join us and engage in a global sisterhood-inspired holiday that is more widely recognised outside of the US, but is making traction here!
